This projected consisted of the complete renovation of a two floor apartment in Amsterdam Oud-West. The remodeling of the apartment was extensive, as originally the basement was not suitable for living since the ceilings were too low. In order to increase the living space, the floor of the entire apartment was elevated by 50 cms. This resulted in a basement ceiling height of 230 cm. This added 60m2 of space to the apartment. The stairs to the basement were moved to the front of the apartment, right in front of a large window. Around the staircase glass walls were placed to maximize the amount of incoming natural light.
The basement floor consists of three bedrooms and a bathroom. On the ground floor all walls were removed to create one open space. Next to the dining area an open kitchen with a kitchen island was placed. The kitchen is build from IKEA base elements, finished with custom made fronts.
To give an even more spacious feeling to the living and dining room area, three large garden doors were created to give entrance to the 100m2 garden. In the back of the garden a big shed was placed for storage purposes. Also a patio was created with space for a fireplace. The design style used for this project is minimalistic and use of blackwood. To give warmth to the house a herringbone floor was installed throughout the ground floor of the apartment. On the basement floor a casting floor was installed.
